Wellness & Preventive Care
Healthy Pets. Happy Lives. Every Stage of Life.
At Animal Medical Center, we believe the best medicine starts long before your pet gets sick. Regular wellness visits are an important part of helping your pet live a longer, healthier, and happier life.
Our approach to preventive care goes beyond a routine checkup. We take the time to get to know your pet, understand their individual needs, and identify potential health concerns before they become bigger problems.
From playful puppies and curious kittens to our beloved senior companions, we're here for every stage of their journey.
What Happens During a Wellness Exam?
Every pet is different, and their preventive care should be too! During your pet's wellness visit, our veterinarians perform a comprehensive physical examination and discuss recommendations based on their age, breed, lifestyle, and medical history.
Your pet's wellness visit may include:
- Comprehensive Physical Examination: Evaluating your pet from nose to tail, including their heart, lungs, eyes, ears, skin, joints, and overall body condition.
- Vaccination Review: Making sure your pet is appropriately protected based on current veterinary guidelines and their individual lifestyle.
- Parasite Prevention & Screening: Discussing heartworm, flea, tick, and intestinal parasite prevention, along with recommended testing.
- Dental Health Assessment: Checking for signs of periodontal disease, oral discomfort, and other dental concerns.
- Nutrition & Weight Management: Evaluating body condition and discussing dietary recommendations to support long-term health.
- Age-Appropriate Diagnostic Testing: Recommending bloodwork, urinalysis, or other screening tests to help detect changes that may not be visible during a physical examination.
- Behavior & Lifestyle Discussions: Addressing changes in activity, mobility, behavior, or daily habits that may indicate an underlying concern.
We want you to leave your appointment feeling informed, confident, and involved in your pet's care.
Why Preventive Care Matters
Pets can't always tell us when something is wrong. In fact, many diseases develop gradually, with few noticeable symptoms in their earliest stages.
Routine wellness visits allow us to establish a baseline for your pet's health, monitor changes over time, and identify potential concerns early.
Early detection can make a meaningful difference in treatment options, quality of life, and long-term outcomes.
Wellness Care Changes as Your Pet Ages
Puppies & Kittens
Those first months are full of growth and change! We'll help establish a healthy foundation through physical examinations, vaccinations, parasite prevention, nutrition, and developmental guidance.
Adult Dogs & Cats
Even healthy adult pets benefit from regular examinations. We'll focus on maintaining their health, monitoring changes, and making preventive care recommendations based on their individual needs.
Senior Pets
As pets age, their health needs change. More frequent examinations and diagnostic screening may help us identify age-related conditions such as arthritis, kidney disease, diabetes, and other concerns earlier.
Our goal is to help your pet stay comfortable, active, and enjoying life for as long as possible.
How Often Should My Pet Have a Wellness Exam?
For most healthy adult dogs and cats, we recommend a wellness examination at least once a year.
Puppies, kittens, senior pets, and pets with ongoing medical conditions may benefit from more frequent visits.
Our veterinarians will help determine the right schedule for your pet.
